2019 MNDSA Award Recipient – Greg Thomas

It is with great honor and pride that we announce the recipient of the 2019 Michael Newman Distinguished Service Award is Greg Thomas from Consumers Concrete.
 
This award is MAA’s most prestigious award that honors an outstanding individual from within the aggregates industry and is presented to individuals that have demonstrated significant contributions to Michigan’s aggregate industry; exemplifies the true meaning of uncompromising devotion; and exceed expectations on a daily basis.
 
Greg is best known by our industry for his leadership within Consumers Concrete. He is third generation within the company and started in 1971.  During his time, he managed the aggregate division and played a crucial role in major projects within the Kalamazoo and surrounding areas.
 
Greg’s leadership and character have been and continue to be displayed through his ability to be an educator, a patient teacher, and one to offer encouraging words at the right time. This was evident not only within his time at Consumers Concrete, but through his service within MAA and his devotion to his family.
 
Although Greg has retired from Consumers Concrete, he still plays an active role within not only the association but only within his community.  Within the association, he has remained active on the board of directors even as after serving as chairman of the board from 2013 to 2014 and also active on the MAA Governmental Affairs committee.
 
Within the community, he has remained active by serving in a number of rolls. For the past 23 years, he has been active within the Kalamazoo County Sheriffs Division and for the past 2 years he has held the role of acting Captain of the Sheriffs Division.  Greg has also served on the Fire department for 33 years with the last 12 years being the Deputy Chief. In addition, he also has served as a township Trustee.
