MDOT Weight Restrictions - Northern Lower and Upper Peninsula


MDOT has informed MAA that they are getting some early indications that restrictions will be going on in the Norther Lower Peninsula and the Upper Peninsula as early as March 8, 2021. 
 
Also, please keep an eye on local road agencies as they will be placing restrictions between now and then in the same areas.

On MDOT routes designated as "All Season Routes" (green or gold on the MDOT Truck Operators Map) there will be no reduction in legal axle weight. - On routes designated as "Seasonal" (solid or dashed red on the MDOT Truck Operators Map) there will be a weight reduction of 25% for rigid pavements and 35% for flexible pavements. Extended permits will be valid for oversize only in the weight restricted area. Single trip permits will not be issued for overweight loads or loads exceeding 14 feet in width, 11 axles and 150 feet in overall length in the weight restricted area.
 
In addition, there have been a number of counties that have either imposed weight restrictions or are planning to in the near future, click here to check the status of restrictions on county roads.
 
For roads located on the local system, the maximum axle load allowable on concrete pavements or pavements with a concrete base is reduced by 25% from the maximum axle load as specified in this chapter, and the maximum axle loads allowable on all other types of roads during these months are reduced by 35% from the maximum axle loads as specified.
