MDOT's New Concrete and Materials Engineer - Chris Bryum, PhD, PE

Christopher Byrum, PhD, PE was recently appointed to the position of Concrete and Materials Engineer at Construction Field Services replacing John Staton who retired at the end of 2021.
 
Chris was with MDOT from 1990 to 1995 before moving to the private sector where he worked at Soils and Materials Engineers (SME) until 2019.  Most recently, he was the owner of Byrum Research and Design. 
 
Chris has extensive materials, concrete, and geotechnical experience on numerous infrastructure projects including pavements, bridges, walls, roads, and special foundations including design-build and traditional project delivery systems. In addition, he has been extensively involved in numerous research projects covering a broad spectrum of transportation infrastructure projects.
 
Chris has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Michigan Technological University, a Master of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan, and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan.
