Must meet QMS requirements of AASHTO R18 (contact MAA office for template)
Must be evaluated by an internal or external source annually to ensure compliance with the requirements to ensure complete with requirements of AASHTO R 18.MDOT form 2923 may be used for this evaluation
Must participate in the aggregate gradation portion of the “Aggregate Gradation and Gravity” and other program that may pertain to your lab (e.g., LA Abrasion, fine aggregate angularity, etc.) beginning in 2023. (Details below)
Must employ qualified QC technicians
Each lab performing QC testing meet these requirements.

Please note that enrollment into the program must be submitted prior to the enrollment cutoff date (est. mid May 2023). Samples will be shipped to producer laboratories beginning the first part of July 2023. Results must be submitted to AASHTO no later than first part of Sept 2023. (note: actual due/enrollment dates will be published on the AASHTO re:source website http://www.aashtoresource.org/ under the “Schedule”)
The program is $180 for a regular XPS fee (per box). A box for each lab location is required.
Recent changes to Chapter 3 of the MDOT Procedures for Aggregate Inspection that correspond
to the MQAP manual. A summary of changes is below:
removed a line stating a requirement for an initial lab inspection
removed a line requiring a biennial lab inspection
removed the section LABORATORY INSPECTIONS for Prequalified Aggregate Suppliers and replaced it with QUALIFIED QC LABORATORIES (PREQUALIFIED AGGREGATE SUPPLIERS)
removed controlling region contact information section and updated contact information for the Aggregate Quality Unit to be general.
Changes to MDOT Materials Quality Assurance Procedures Manual
Removed requirement for the annual MDOT Independent Assurance Testing (IAT) Program
