MSHA Opioid Resource Guide: Preventing Opioid Use Disorder in Mining
The mining industry faces significant challenges related to opioid misuse, with higher rates of overdose and suicide among male workers compared to other industries. Difficult working conditions can increase risks of injury, stress, and adverse mental health outcomes.
Workplace programs can effectively improve worker well-being and reduce these risks. MSHA in partnership with CDC and NIOSH recently developed a guide that offers practical tools for mine operators and safety managers to implement strategies to prevent opioid use disorder (OUD) among workers.
