MAA 2025 Walleye Fishing & Legislative Event Recap
On June 5, 2025, MAA hosted our annual Walleye Fishing and Legislative update at the beautiful Safe Harbor Toledo Beach Marina in LaSalle. Members received timely updates on Michigan’s political climate and key issues impacting our industry.
Highlights included an MDOT update on the final $709 million bond sale expected this fall, plans for future work zone safety camera implementation in 2026, and a deeper discussion around Michigan’s road funding. With Republicans and the Governor pushing for an additional $3.1 billion in funding, the pressure is growing for legislative action.
Other updates included the paused MSHA Silica Rule, EGLE’s draft permit for groundwater discharge, and a proposed federal rule that would exempt brake requirements on older portable conveyors.
Following the meeting, members hit Lake Erie for some incredible walleye fishing—always a favorite part of this event!
