MAA Names Dan Balkema as the 25th Annual Michael Newman Distinguished Service Award Recipient
LANSING, Mich. -- The
Michigan Aggregates Association (MAA) announced that
Dan Balkema of
Aggregate Resources has been selected as its 2025 Michael Newman Distinguished Service Award recipient. The award was presented during MAA’s Summer Conference on Mackinac Island this week.
“As both an expert in the field of aggregate mining and a leader in the fight for public policies that allow us to serve the needs of Michigan’s economy, Dan was a natural choice for this award," said
MAA Executive Director Doug Needham. “Dan’s contributions and efforts have been vital to the growth of our industry."
Established in 2000, the Michael Newman Distinguished Service Award is MAA’s most prestigious honor. Previous recipients include G. Charles Hubscher, Cliff Halliday, Jr., and more, all of whom have provided significant leadership contributions to the industry.
Balkema has been a dedicated part of this industry since 1974, when he purchased his first portable plant. From the very beginning, mining has been Dan’s true passion. Over the years, he has become a tireless advocate for our industry and remains deeply involved, even after serving as chairman of the MAA.
