Michigan Aggregates Association Gives Tom Downs the MAA Board of Directors Member Recognition Award

LANSING, Mich. -- The Michigan Aggregates Association (MAA) presented Tom Downs of Great Lakes Aggregate the 2025 MAA Board of Directors Member Recognition Award. The award was bestowed during MAA’s Summer Conference on Mackinac Island this week.

Tom’s involvement has made a lasting impact on both the association and the industry
as a whole," said MAA Executive Director Doug Needham. "His leadership, generosity, and long-standing commitment serve as an example for all of us."

This award recognizes individuals who have shown outstanding involvement in our industry and made meaningful contributions through their work on various committees. Nominees are selected by their peers and reviewed by the Board of Directors.

Downs' peers have seen him consistently go above and beyond to support fellow members, whether visiting operations to assist with equipment setup or providing expert guidance to help ensure compliance with MSHA and OSHA regulations. Beyond individual support, Downs’ leadership on the safety committee has driven significant improvements. Under his guidance, the committee developed monthly safety toolbox talks, the MAA Safety Review program, and many practical tools to help members meet industry standards. These efforts have benefited companies of every size across the association.
