MAA Emerging Leaders – Session Four: Understanding the Legislative Process
Last week, October 8th, marked the fourth session of the MAA Emerging Leaders Program, focusing on the legislative process and how Michigan’s government operates. Participants gained valuable insight into the many facets of the Michigan Legislature and the important role advocacy plays in our industry.
A special thank you to our guest speakers:
- Mike Alaimo, Senior Director, Legislative & External Affairs – Michigan Chamber of Commerce
- Max Aulbach, Legislative Liaison – MDOT
- Ania Ediger, Director, State and Local Government Relations – Cliffs Natural Resources
for sharing their perspectives on legislative engagement and collaboration.
We’d also like to thank Dave Ladd of Kelley Cawthorne for his detailed overview of Michigan’s state budget process, and Senator Joe Bellino for joining us for lunch and offering thoughtful insights into key issues currently being addressed in Lansing.
The day concluded with a guided tour of the Michigan Capitol, where participants explored the building’s rich history and legislative traditions.
Another excellent day of learning, discussion, and leadership development for the next generation of industry leaders!
