MAA/MDOT/MCA Bus Tour with Industry Cookout

This year’s MDOT/MAA Bus Tour featured a special twist - a joint barbecue and networking event hosted at the beautiful Carmeuse Guest House in Rogers City. The evening brought together MDOT personnel, industry partners, and representatives from MAA and MCA for great conversation, collaboration, and a brief presentation highlighting ongoing partnership efforts between the agencies and associations.

The following morning, participants toured the Carmeuse Calcite Quarry, one of Michigan’s most impressive aggregate operations. Over 50 attendees enjoyed an in-depth look at the site’s history and operations including the primary crusher, shipping dock, mill house, dewatering systems, and the geological formations that make this quarry unique.

The tour concluded with a look at the fish weir project, where salmon eggs will soon be collected to support future hatching efforts an excellent example of how industry and environmental stewardship can work hand-in-hand.

A huge thank-you to Carmeuse for hosting this year’s event and to all the participants who made it a success!
